Everyone has different growth paths, aspirations and paces. Atlan is a place for all kinds of growth paths.

At Atlan, you can grow 1X, 2X or even 10X in a given year. However, each growth path and pace comes with trade-offs and it's important for you to evaluate what is important to you and how you’d like to grow. Think about your own pace, what kind of growth path you are comfortable with and set the right expectations with your mentor.

Growth paths at Atlan

Usually people take on one of two growth journeys at Atlan:

  1. Technical Expertise: They become technical experts in a particular function, or they become
  2. People Leaders: They lead a team and become responsible for the business deliverables of that team.

In 2018, we started the process of formalizing these growth paths for our more well-defined teams. Our Engineering Team kickstarted this process by creating a task force that defined, in detail, what should be the ideal engineering growth paths in the company. This was soon adopted by teams like Data Science, Growth and Sales. Each growth level in the company is defined as a "band". Each band has a title associated with it along with responsibilities of the role to match the band.

The table below contains a broad description of the different bands in the company and the associated responsibilities. Each function details and fleshes out these titles in more detail as they grow.

Finding your ideal growth path

Sometimes, you don't know whether you want to grow as a people leader or as a technical expert. That's completely alright. Be honest with your manager about your confusion. Your manager would have some ideas and thoughts about your growth too. At Atlan, we truly believe that the best learning is doing.

It is not uncommon for people to discover their ideal growth path by taking on side projects in the company: driving a task force, working on proof of concepts, etc.

How to get started with a side project? Simply go to your leader/ founders and ask "what are the biggest problems you see in the company that no one is solving right now?" You'll find your way!
