We hire ambitious people who have it in them to make a dent in their fields and do things that our customers, partners and users love and respect.
It is also our duty towards each other to do our best as we all are working here at-will. So do whatever is best for your team. Help each other grow. Give feedback. Be honest. Don’t make people follow up with you unnecessarily. Treat everyone’s time with care. Don’t indulge in office gossip. Be the teammate that you would hope for.
Our customers trust us with their data and sensitive company information. It is our foremost duty to handle their information with care. Here’s what you should keep in mind:
This roughly translates into: if you see a problem at work, solve it. If you think you can make a product better, do all you can to make that happen. If you find a process that can or should be improved, do your research and make an informed suggestion to the team. If you find something can be done better in your team, do it even if it’s not your prerogative. Simple things like organizing drive folders, writing up a knowledge doc, creating a wiki or organizing a team event can go a long way in showcasing your bias for action.
Every decision that you make related to product, business, people or operations matters. It affects your colleagues, your customers and your partners. When making a decision, make sure to consider all the factors, understand the problem completely and break it down into small fragments before making a choice. Thinking clearly and deeply matters while solving any problem.
No BS. Period. Be straightforward. Have a problem with someone? Discuss it with the person who can solve it. Have feedback for someone, anyone in the organization? Simply share your feedback with that person. And if you want feedback, just ask for it.
If you ever have to choose between two options, carefully evaluate the impact that Choice #1 will have on the company vs that of Choice #2. Then, pick the option that will help the company in the long run. If you are unsure about how your choices will affect the company, ask someone who can answer that for you. Your time and actions are critical for the company.
Asking questions is important in many scenarios. If you are not clear on what needs to be done—ask. If you don’t think a particular way of functioning is the correct way—ask for alternatives. If you don’t quite understand a concept, product or part of your work—ask about it. If you don’t know the best way of functioning—ask in-house experts or your fellow team members. If you don’t understand a customer's problem—ask the questions until you are clear. If you think someone is not doing enough—ask them why. Ask and understand everything by first principles and then make decisions.
Every single piece of work you spend your time on matters. Without really knowing the context, subject matter, people or the complete situation—you’ll never be able to do the best work of your life.
